Speech software for visually impaired non smart phone users

5 out of 5 stars

This is a really fantastic software for visually impaired people not up to date with IT or who don't feel comfortable using smart phones.
With this software, you don't need to rely on other people for help. It's very handy and useful if you have an older and simpler mobile phone.
I had this software installed by Computer Room Services (a company based in Stevenage) on my old Nokia 6700 which cost me £160. Computer Room Services recently downloaded the software on my newer phone (Nokia C500) for £60 as I was an existing customer.
It's very handy if you want to know the time or if you have appointments. You can easily manage your day to day routine. You don't need to manually update clocks or dates as it will do it automatically for you.
It's similar to VoiceOver only for older, simpler phones.

Talk - speech software for mobile phone

Out and about

Nuance

£100 - £200

It's really fantastic. I would highly recommend to other visually impaired people.

Very reliable. I've had it for 5 years. Never had issues or problems. Even if I did have very minor problems or hiccups, you can easily contact the company.

I know it could be considered costly but it's worth the money.

Talks 60 is a screen reader for Symbian Series 60 phones. It allows a blind or visually impaired person to use most functions of these phones. With
Talks and your chosen phone, you can:-

-Write and read text messages (SMS/MMS)
-Write and read e-mail
-Dial a number from the phone book
-Add new entries to or edit existing entries in the contacts database
-Edit the phone’s profiles and the other settings
-Use the appointment calendar
-Write and read text documents
-Use the alarm clock, and other tools
-Use the WAP and web browser.

Talks uses the ETI Eloquence text-to-speech software, like other screen reading packages, so you should feel familiar with the voice right away.

Talks is simple to operate, so you can concentrate on getting a grip on your phone, instead of worrying about complicated commands for the screen reader.
