Ring Video Doorbell

4.7 out of 5 stars

Like most disabled people my constant fear is somebody knocking at the door whilst I am in bed. This is even more worrying as my wife died in February and I live on my own. I have carers for various parts of the day but there are times in the early morning or during the day where I am alone. When I saw this new product available I thought this would be just what I need. Another worry was being ill in the night and allowing emergency services or doctor in, all gave me great concern. I purchased the Ring product which initially comes with a 30 day free trial period of cloud storage, after that period you are required to purchase a subscription according to your needs and cost.

I have found the device excellent for my needs, I can monitor who is at the door, I can talk to them directly via my phone from anywhere in the world. It also gives me indication on my mobile of when there is any motion in the vicinity, I can then tap into the app on my phone and investigate. I recently had a key safe fitted in a secure location at my property, I am able to give the code to any visitor to obtain the key and gain entry if required. The product worked really well the other day when my carer forgot her key and was able to talk to me to get the information that was needed to gain entry. There is further development I understand to enable linking various cameras in and around the house. You can get battery operated or hardwired products of which the hardwired ones would need to be fitted by a trades person and then an app on your phone to be set up. When it’s all up and running its fool proof.

I think there is further scope for development linking into the mobile phone to enable personal safety such as falling, medical illnesses with automatic connection to emergency services, doctors and carers. The ability to withdraw videos from a central base is very beneficial. I recently used this feature as evidence for miss selling at the door. The product comes various labels to warn people that they are being recorded which again is a deterrent to bogus visitors.

Ring Doorbell

At home

Over £200

Excellent, I can access the app on my phone or ipad. You can also access the videos in the cloud etc.

Excellent, never had a problem.

I think it is great value for money. Initially I wasnt aware of the need to subscribe for storing the video footage. So some people may struggle with that cost, but I still feel it is reasonable.
