I have a spinal injury due to a DIY accident 20 years ago & have found sleeping in a normal bed very unsettled & painful despite trying quite a few mattress types over the years. I found that I slept well when in hospital as they always gave me an electrically adjustable bed. Recently, I found myself in a position financially that meant that I could finally afford to buy one for myself. After a lot of Internet searching I found Laybrook based in Bicester near Oxford. I chose their Hestercombe solid wood 4' 6" double bed frame with the head & foot end adjustment & sliding mechanism. This I enhanced with their memory foam & pocket spring mattress. I visited their tiny showroom & was so pleased with the comfort of the bed that I placed my order on the spot. the bed was made 3" taller (as I am tall) and the mattress was made specially to suit my preference for a firm support but suited to my weight. Delivery took 8 weeks as it was a custom size, but I am so pleased with the bed. It is very easy to adjust to a comfortable sleeping position whether on my back or on my side. I am now sleeping far better & am in much less pain, so a great result! The engineering of the mechanism is top notch & quiet in operation. Guaranteed for 5 years, I'm anticipating a trouble free & comfortable future. Cost was just over £2,000 which is pretty good I thought for a custom bed. Bed height Breakdown

Standard size for the Hesticombe is 23 inches from the floor to the top of the mattress.

Purchasing any Sprung Mattress (Pocket or Superior) may increase the overall bed height.

If your bed is ordered with a Vertical Lift, 1 inch will be added to the overall height.
A Heavy Duty Frame will also add 1 inch to the total height.

To make sure the height of your bed is correct when ordering, please measure your own first.
